Melanie is passionate about making her community a better place for all of us. She was born and raised in Temiskaming Shores and is running for municipal council in the city she calls home.
Melanie is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s School of Business with a Master of Arts in Business and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Western University in London. She began her career working for the City of Toronto researching economic development and creative industries around the world. Since that time she has been happy to make a home and a life in the community she grew up in, successfully leading in multiple industries from manufacturing, to the arts, legal services and social services. Currently, she is the Executive Director at Pavilion Women’s Centre/Centre des Femmes.
Melanie maintains a busy volunteer presence in the community. She has served as Chair of the Temiskaming Festival of Music, performed and participated in countless fundraisers for local causes such as CATScan, Quality Time, Community Cancer Care and Zak’s Crib, and has been active in the local skating clubs. When she isn’t working you can often find her at the rink with her family, coaching CanSkate or directing local theatre productions such as Mary Poppins. She currently serves as treasurer for the Ontario Association of Interval and Transition Houses, an organization which represents Violence Against Women shelters in Ontario.
She is excited to bring her knowledge, experience and collaborative approach to council.
